[sue also groaned at the title*]
This Saturday, I shunned all of my thesis-related responsibilities and trotted off to Sue's to sew. I had a vision. Sue has an amazing jean skirt she got from the designer of The Dress Code Under Siege. I had an old pair of jeans. We made this:
Yesterday, while I was at home writing my thesis, I put it in the wash to fray the bottom. Now I just need a hot day (and to shave my legs).
In knitting news, I finally finished Paige's Birthday Sweater and in the nick of time really seeing as today is her birthday! Despite their mismatched shapes, I threw caution to the wind and inserted the sleeves anyway. It doesn't look that bad, surprisingly. Currently it is blocking and I need buttons but all of the hard work is done. I will post pics of her wearing it after her birthday party this weekend. As for the hourglass sweater, I have started on the second sleeve and am petrified I will run out of yarn. Does anyone know how to attach the sleeves to the body (why do I always have problems attaching sleeves)? I'm afraid of the pattern's instructions.
*"Puns are little 'plays on words' that a certain breed of person loves
to spring on you and then look at you in a certain self-satisfied way to
indicate that he thinks that you must think that he is by far the
cleverest person on Earth now that Benjamin Franklin is dead, when in
fact what you are thinking is that if this person ends up in a lifeboat,
the other passengers will hurl him overboard by the end of the first day
even if they have plenty of food and water."

ohhh, envy! I want to sew cool skirts too.

I would use the crochet method to sew up the sleeves. I just learned it for the ballet wrap, and it is REALLY easy. Laura (of Lettuce Knit and CosmicPluto) showed me. I am sure if you stop by the store she, I, or anyone, would be happy to show you

I am anxious to see your creation on Paige. I finished the 3 pair of sox for her. Hope they fit!
Sewing is not my thing; glad it works for you.
I am making a little linen stitch bag and am learning to crochet around the edges. All of a sudden I am all thumbs. I keep wanting to hold the yarn in my right hand like I do when I knit. Also I had trouble pulling needle through until I made stitches looser.
Paige and I had a subway adventure yesterday--somebody suicided at Queen St.....more on that when I see you.
"Italian Straw Hat" ballet was great--music, costumes, scenery, humourous. But the 2nd Act went on too long--especially after they found the hat. Also about that time I had a tickle in my throat so I was trying so hard to stiffle my cough/choking so that my eyes were watering and nose was running as I was trying quietly and unsuccessfully to find a piece of kleenx in my purse.

ah, jeans converted to skirts - the one i made last summer was a staple in my wardrobe. i plan to make a few more this year. they're especially good to make from pants that are too high in the waist (i'm a lowrise grrl), b/c once you rip out the legs you can situate 'em on yer hips however you like!
